Allyson Kew (b. 1988, Regina, Canada) was raised in Weyburn, Saskatchewan and later graduated from the University of Regina with a BFA in Visual Arts. Focusing primarily on painting and drawing, Allyson has separated her work into three branches: diachronic processes, reflexivity, and psychological inconsistencies. She often places herself in situations requiring the maintenance of strict routines; and by doing so, explores specific behaviours. Reflective objects and how they can be used as a means of hiding the truth, or even partial truths, are another main concentration. Cutting through the work and linking the viewer and artist is a sense of self-deprivation and dark humour. The resulting images, however, are bold, colourful, and abstracted.
