About Allyson Roy

I am a Master of Science graduate from Arizona State University's Criminology & Criminal Justice Program in 2014. I recently graduated the police academy in August 2016. Prior to the academy I worked in the Strategic Planning Analysis and Research Center (SPARC) for the Tempe Police Department. My research experience leading up to my current position resides in Police Department implementation and assignment of body worn cameras. While participating in one of the few existing body camera studies in the United States during my graduate degree, I found a great interest in police research as policing evolves in the 21st century. I have applied this knowledge to my current position while participating on the Department's board for body worn cameras. In the research position with SPARC, I had the opportunity to evaluate the City of Tempe from a foot view perspective. Through data analysis and research, we developed strategies to better police our community using intelligence-led approaches, understanding both seasonality and environmental factors, to best guide our policing approach. I focused on long-term crime analysis, general crime statistics and analysis of police calls, Uniform Crime Reporting, citizen/media/agency requests, program evaluations & best practices research, strategic planning, resource allocation, staffing & scheduling studies, geographic & spatial analysis, departmental reports (annual report & crime suppression team - similar to CompStat), and criminological research.
