Background
About Allyson Vuli
Website: I took a non-traditional route through education. I left school aged 17 to pursue my passion for dance. I worked as a professional dancer in Europe, before progressing to study a two year classically based dance performance course, and subsequently studying a PG Diploma in Acting on a full scholarship. I worked extensively in Theatre, Film and TV, developing strong communication and leadership skills, and also worked as a telephone counsellor for Childline. Upon achieving my BA (Hons) over a decade later, I taught in Post-Compulsory Education, in addition to working in private practice and as a community dance and drama practitioner. This is where I realised my passion for supporting people to find self expression through the Arts, supporting mental health and personal development through creativity. In 2011, I studied for an MA in Dance Movement Psychotherapy at Derby University, and undertook a range of work based placement within NHS settings. After graduating with distinction, I worked for national charity Changing Lives, delivering group and individual psychotherapy. I also devised and delivered health/wellness programs for asylum seekers/refugees within the local community, concurrently working as a Creative Artist delivering arts based workshops for adults with learning disabilities until 2016. I am a visiting lecturer at the University of Derby, and work with organisations to devise and deliver workshops and training around working with Diversity, Overcoming Stress in the Workplace and offer creative workshops to professionals on movement, dance, and the use of Choreo-Therapeutic models in Performance. I am a UKCP accredited Psychotherapist currently working in Private Practice, drawing on the expressive arts as part of the therapeutic process. I am passionate about working with people who have experienced complex trauma supporting self expression, healing and awareness to overcome adversity.
