About Althea Yip

I lead the Tax Advisory and Planning Group at Loopstra Nixon LLP and am a member of the firm’s Business Law Practice Group. As part of my tax practice, I works closely with businesses and individual clients to plan and implement customized tax strategies to accomplish various short- and long-term tax, operational, business and/or personal objectives. I regularly advise on corporate reorganizations and consolidations, share and/or asset transfers, management buy-outs, mergers and acquisitions, intergenerational transfers, trusts, private equity transactions, and domestic and international tax planning. In addition, I work alongside Loopstra Nixon LLP's wealth management and estate planning group help clients with succession and estate planning. As part of my business law practice, I assist Canadian and international entrepreneurs and businesses (including start-ups, midmarket businesses, family businesses, and multinational private corporations) in a wide range of industries concerning strategic acquisitions, exit strategies, debt and equity financing, commercial contracts, corporate development and governance, regulatory compliance, risk management, corporate finance matters. I graduated from the JD/MBA joint degree program at Osgoode Hall Law School and the Schulich School of Business, York University. Before my post-graduate studies, I attended the University of Western Ontario's Health Sciences (Honours) Program, graduating with a double major in health sciences and philosophy. I am licensed to practice law in Canada (Ontario) and the United States (New York). In addition, I completed the In-Depth Tax Program at the Chartered Professional Accountants of Canada (CPA Canada).
