About Alvin Young

Hello! I'm Alvin, and I’m a computer science and statistics student at the University of British Columbia. To me, life is about experiences, and creating experiences. Through computer science, I've learned how to do just that - create memorable experiences using technology and the emerging media that surrounds our everyday life. Game design and software development instilled in me a love for media and technology, and their ability to shape the way people think and feel through fun and immersive experiences. Through this journey, I discovered a love for creation and problem-solving that drives my work in computer science. Since then, I’ve expanded my expertise into various areas and programming languages, including Java, web development, data management, and AI/machine learning. Joining the Emerging Media Lab as a Worklearn student is another step that I've taken to explore ways in which our ever-growing world of technology can be used enhance, educate, and enchant our lives. Outside of computer science, I am a ballroom dance club executive, and I'm an avid tennis fan. I also enjoy cooking and reading psychological thrillers in my spare time.
