About Alyssa Fagan

A reliable, friendly and ambitious Zoology graduate with a strong motivation to pursue a career in environmental sciences. My degree and work experience have helped me develop an insight to a variety of skills such as team working, field work, written and oral communication, report writing, time management, software and IT skills and lastly, laboratory-based work. I have worked to achieve the highest possible standard at any task given, graduating with a 2:1. Conservation Experience • During my time at university, I had the opportunity to travel to Tenerife to observe and record behaviours of both their native gecko’s and lizards, further doing a presentation with one other student on comparing the frequency of injuries found between male and females. • My end of year research programme involved the behaviours of poison dart frogs, in looking at boldness in both juveniles and adults when it comes to enrichment changes. • Subjects such as Animal welfare, learning and cognition and field skills has helped me dive into the world of conservation ethics a lot clearer, and helped me understand the importance of it. Communication • Writing skills have improved due to the list of assignments given to me by the university, including essays and lab reports. • Presenting and public speaking skills have strengthened by working in groups of five or more. • Part-Time employment in retail heavily uses communication skills by interacting with the public, thus improving my ability to provide the best customer service possible. Teamwork Skills • I have been working and volunteering in customer service and retail for over five years, and with this experience, I am able to continue and pass over my skills and abilities when it comes to group projects. Time management and Organisation Skills • Working in fast paced environments has helped develop my time management skills, as I am required to combine things such as serving customers, replace new stock, handle deliveries and help the public within anything deem necessary. • I have managed to successfully balance full time study with part time work, by using revision timetables and academic planners. IT and Software • During my Musical Performance course, Microsoft Office software was heavily used to write essays and create presentational work. LJMU has helped me dive into these programmes more thoroughly, along with introducing me to SPSS. • With this, SPSS has aided me with how to statistically analysis data that has been collected from both out in the field and in the lab.
