About Alyssa Harter

I’m an experienced professional with an interest in expanding opportunities for personal development and enrichment to all communities through my experience and research in Communication Studies. I am interested in the value of fostering a multicultural community ranging from workplace communication to classroom communication, exploring the opportunities and challenges learning from others can provide. Career experience includes the following highlights: • Taught 1100 students over the past 6 years, covering diversity, equity, communications, and public speaking. Taught 41 classes (created 13) including face to face, online, blended, with 30 students per class. Courses Taught: Listening; Interpersonal Comm; Small Group Comm; Gender Comm; Teaching & Coaching Forensics; Persuasion; Public Speaking; Intro to Public Relations • Gained tremendous experience in Building Curriculum and Training Materials, Teaching, Tutoring, Administering Assessments and Grading. In each role, researched, designed, implemented, and assessed course content using best practices including collaborative/cooperative learning, culturally responsive/trauma informed exercises, problem-based/community-based learning. Required significant research; textbook selection; design of syllabi and course content; implementation; performance of course, program, and universal learning outcome assessment. • Supported organization-wide efforts including team development, action on departmental and college-wide committees, and representation at multiple academic conferences. When I’m not on the job or learning, I love reading a new novel, experiencing new restaurants, and indulging my love for seeing new places.
