About Alyssa Lau

Science is about asking questions, exploring possibilities, and seeking answers. It is about taking chances and thinking creatively.As a graduate from Syracuse University with a Bachelor’s degree in Biochemistry and Graphic Design, I developed a passion for scientific research. Research not only involves logic and analytical thinking, it evokes creativity. During my undergraduate, I made sure to immerse myself in research.Exploring different fields allowed me to discover my deep interest in molecular biology. I earned my Ph.D. in Molecular, Cellular and Developmental Biology and my M.S. in Bioinformatics at the University of Michigan while studying chromatin structure and function. I completed my postdoctoral training at The Jackson Laboratory studying cancer epigenomics with an emphasis on DNA methylation assay development for tumor liquid biopsies. I was previously at Thrive, An Exact Sciences Company, focusing on genomic assay development to detect cancer earlier to make greater impact on patients. I’m currently a Senior Scientist at Precede Biosciences, where we are breaking down the barriers to precision medicine by redefining what can be learned from a simple blood draw. My primary interests lie in the field of epigenetics and cancer genomics. My future goals include establishing a career in research and gaining the opportunity to contribute to its many unanswered questions.
