About Alyssa McCann

I am currently working as a research and development engineer for Novus diagnostics. This role focuses on the research and development of innovative diagnostic solutions with a particular focus on Septec, a diagnostic cartridge utilising a unique microfluidic and electrochemical system to rapidly diagnose bloodstream infections. My work will involve the design optimisation of the microfluidic cartridge, test builds, designing experiments, verification testing, developing prototypes and data analysis, all aimed at improving diagnostic accuracy and accessibility. I spent time as a design engineer working on delivery system medical devices for Jabil Healthcare as of July 2024. My work involves initial designs and modifications, testing, proof of concept, tolerance analysis, prototyping (SLA/FDM), all the way to prepping a device for mass manufacturing. I completed a research project on the optimisation of lipid nanoparticles incorporating AI analysis and attempted the encapsulation of lipoxin A4 which is known to reduce inflammation but is a very unstable compound so requires a carrier to be useful. In September of 2024 I completed my 2 year ME Biomedical Engineering program with UCD. I have completed my bachelors in biomedical engineering in UCD from 2019-2022 From August 1st 2020 to february 2022 I worked in Enfer Group, Naas, in their corona virus testing laboratory, working in their sample preparation department.
