About Alyssa Moore

I strive to better the world in any way I can. I first realized this after taking on a radio support role in wildfire management. I kept returning to this job, year after year, because I could see that the work my colleagues and myself were doing made a difference to the communities we served. At the same time, I was wondering where I was going to go with my career. I had started my Bachelor of Science in Anatomy and Cell Biology with the intention of using it as a stepping stone towards a career in medicine. Three years into that degree, I was only sure of three things: I wanted to help people, I loved learning about anatomy and the human body, and I did not want to go into medicine anymore. That is what led me to pursue a Master of Science in Clinical Anatomy: I could help others through educating them, I could further my knowledge in the anatomical sciences and use that knowledge in my teaching, and the M.Sc. gave me the opportunity to pursue research in developmental biology in Dr. Willmore’s lab and contribute to our society’s understanding of how the skull develops. Currently, I am pursuing my interests in research and education through completion of a Ph.D. in Anatomy and Cell Biology, wherein I get to focus on the development of the skull and learn cutting-edge imaging and molecular biology techniques while also strengthening my teaching skills through teaching assistantships for graduate and professional students. I am also looking for opportunities to participate in science outreach, which is an activity I want to incorporate into my career.
