About Alyssa Nelson
Growing up in a stretch of Appalachia, my focus has been on policy solutions for economic mobility & poverty alleviation. I spent a year of service in the nonprofit housing sector as an AmeriCorps VISTA an experience which inspired me to pursure my Master of Public Policy in Housing and Community Development. After a volunteer internship with Department of Housing and Urban Development, I accepted a Fellowship position within the HUD Office of Fair Housing and Equality Opportunity. As an Equal Oppotunity specialist I take part in investigations of discrimination complaints that violate the Fair Housing Act and help meet Affirmatively Furthering Fair Housing guidelines through compliance reviews of federal partners. I am interested in using my skills and experience to focus on disadvantaged communities, policy analysis, and project coordination.
