About Alyssa Yu

My name is Alyssa Yu. I am currently a senior. In the future, I'd like to major in nuclear engineering and work with nuclear power plants to facilitate widespread clean energy for our future. I have experience in leadership positions operating in many vastly different contexts and am also a great team player. In softball, I am a utility who does anything she can to help the team whether it's playing somewhere I usually don't play or moving someone around the bases. Being a highly competitive softball player has given me the ability to make decisions quickly and effectively, and also taught me about teamwork and the value of executing properly the first time. This Fall season, I've taken on the role of team captain and will lead the team through drills and help uplift the team as a unit when we are down. I am also a pianist. Along with taking lessons, playing recitals, and doing ABRSM and ConBrio testing, I was a Head Piano Teacher at QuaranTunes. Previously, I had volunteered as a piano teacher and taught a student, however, I felt that taking on a leadership role would be more well-suited for me. Another passion I have is weight training. After being recommended by the lead student following my first year of weights, I had the unique opportunity to be a student lead for the class. Being a student lead enhanced my leadership skills and my ability to come to resolutions on complex issues. I also came up with a statistically fair way to compare the improvement in maxes for lifts between three periods. Currently, I am looking for STEM-related internships in the Bay Area.
