About Alyza Enriquez

I'm a Peabody-award-winning, Brooklyn-based filmmaker and photographer whose work focuses on the inarticulateness of identity and how people create a sense of self in community with one another. My experience growing up as a trans Latine person heavily informs my work. In 2016, I joined VICE as an assistant editor and later helped spearhead the company's style guide for covering the LGBTQ+ community. In 2021, frustrated with the way journalism covers trans stories, I co-created the VICE News series "Transnational," which won an Online Journalism Award, a GLAAD award, and a Peabody. That same year, I also produced and photographed the Gender Spectrum Collection, a stock photography project aiming to increase trans and non-binary representation in everyday images. The project won first place for Photography: Citizen Design at the Print Awards. In 2022, I joined the VICE News team as a social liaison and long-form producer and host. I also made another season of "Transnational." In 2023, I developed and hosted a SHOWTIME segment on detransitioners and conservative lawmakers, and co-produced the documentary "OUT LOUD." I left VICE in 2024 to explore experimental documentary filmmaking that will allow them to explore identity and self-hood more expansively.
