About Amal Isaiah

I'm a Professor of Otorhinolaryngology—Head and Neck Surgery at the University of Maryland School of Medicine, Baltimore, MD. I have secondary appointments in the Departments of Pediatrics and Diagnostic Radiology & Nuclear Medicine. I qualified in Medicine from St. John’s Medical College in India and completed my DPhil in Neuroscience from Oxford University as a Rhodes Scholar. I completed residency training in Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery at University of Maryland and an ACGME-accredited fellowship in Pediatric Otolaryngology at Children's Health/University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center. I am certified by the American Board of Otolaryngology in both Otolaryngology-Head & Neck Surgery and Complex Pediatric Otolaryngology. My clinical interests are related to the management of upper airway obstruction and hearing problems in infants and children. I lead an NIH-funded research group that investigates the brain outcomes of children with sleep disordered breathing using statistical and machine learning approaches. In addition to 70 publications in related domains, I am a co-investigator in the Adolescent Brain Cognitive Development (ABCD) Study, which tracks the brain development of preadolescents for the next decade. Along with my clinical and research pursuits, I’m enrolled in the executive MBA program at the University of Maryland Smith School of Business.
