Background
About Amalina Davis
Check out my website: My ultimate goal in life is to use my strengths and gifts to help create a positive impact on the world. As a child of mixed parentage combining the eastern and western world, I began questioning the concept of identity from a very young age. I was curious about why people behave the way they did, and how to use that understanding to lift every individual to their full potential. After high school in Malaysia, I was offered a scholarship to pursue a double degree in Chemical Engineering and Business Management in Australia. Coming from a family of scientists, that received the parental nod of approval. Soon after, I began a corporate career in what used to be Malaysia’s largest conglomerate. I explored the breadth of how an organisation works, from audit, to sustainability, to strategy & transformation, to marketing. I came to appreciate the mechanisms of an organisation, how it can be an engine to create impact and reach the lives of many people. I enjoyed my corporate job, yet, I can’t help but feel something bigger was missing - a real purpose beyond maximising shareholder profit. That nagging feeling led me to volunteer across the spectrum of community development, where I’ve taught schoolchildren in India, volunteered in nursing homes in Australia and mental health centers in Malaysia. Being a caregiver to my bipolar father, combined with my innate interest in psychology - I pivoted my corporate career to work in mental health. I joined Thrive Well, a community mental health social enterprise in Malaysia as the Head of Strategy & Advocacy. The work we did helped improve mental health access for the underprivileged community, reduce stigma on mental health and advocate for policy changes. To gain an academic understanding of the mechanisms that underpin mental health, I decided to go back to university. I am currently pursuing a Masters of Psychology in Cardiff University, while volunteering with the UK’s National Health Service (NHS) in an acute mental health dementia ward. On top of all that, I am ardent traveller and aspiring creative writer. I keep a travel blog to document my travel journeys, head on over to if you’re interested. If you made it this far in reading, I sincerely thank you for your time. Drop a note to say hi!
