About Amanda Camargo

For ten years, I have been working with different human rights organizations, building up initiatives that promote a better and more dignified life for the 99%. I have provided expert advice on international human rights grantmaking, supported unions, founded a human rights legal clinic, organized workshops for migrant workers and negotiated complex social-environmental cases with big corporations. I have also coordinated organizational changes in key human rights organizations, always working collectively with multidisciplinary teams, starting from a horizontal, transparent approach. I am now leading the programmatic efforts of Labora, a joint initiative by the Brazil Human Rights Fund, Laudes Foundation, Ford Foundation, and Open Society Foundations to support the fight for decent work, just transition, and social protection in Brazil, with racial and gender justice for all. I am passionate about social change achieved through collective organizing, promoting human and workers' rights from the ground up, and teaming up with committed organizations striving to improve themselves and better support their Há dez anos trabalho com diferentes organizações de direitos humanos, desenvolvendo iniciativas que promovem uma vida melhor e mais digna para os 99%. Forneci consultoria especializada para portfólios internacionais no campo dos direitos humanos, apoiei sindicatos, fundei uma clínica jurídica de direitos humanos, organizei workshops para trabalhadores migrantes e negociei casos socioambientais complexos com grandes corporações. Também coordenei mudanças organizacionais em importantes organizações de direitos humanos, sempre trabalhando coletivamente com equipes multidisciplinares, partindo de uma abordagem horizontal e transparente. Atualmente, lidero os esforços programáticos do Labora, uma iniciativa conjunta do Fundo Brasil de Direitos Humanos, Laudes Foundation, Ford Foundation e Open Society Foundations para apoiar a luta por trabalho digno, transição justa e proteção social no Brasil, com justiça racial e de gênero para todos. Sou completamente comprometida com a transformação social alcançada por meio da organização coletiva; a promoção dos direitos humanos a partir da base e a atuação com organizações do campo que se esforçam para se aperfeiçoar e aprimorar o seu trabalho.
