About Amanda Cappon

The only person who is educated is the one who has learned how to learn and change” (Carl Rogers). My Inspiration As an educator and researcher: I consider myself a life-long learner. In 2013 I joined the ranks of full-time faculty at Durham College. I am a Professor and Researcher and I love my job! Students inspire me every day. My goal in this role is to facilitate creative exploration of self and others as they progress through their post-secondary journey. As a Psychotherapist: Change is hard! It is easy for people to feel "stuck." I seek to facilitate client exploration of the glue that keeps them "stuck" and to collaborate on a healthy mix of change and self-acceptance. I am part of an excellent team of therapists at Onyx therapeutics. Career Highlight I worked front-line in the field of addictions and mental health for 5 years. One of my most memorable positions was as an Addictions Specialist on an Assertive Community Treatment Team (ACTT) with Northumberland Hills Hospital. For anyone who is not familiar with ACTT, my favourite descriptor is that it is like a “hospital without walls.” I worked as part of a multidisciplinary team while supporting our clients to improve their quality of life in a variety of ways. I look forward to joining with others on LinkedIn who are passionate about health, wellness, research and on educating students on these topics.
