About Amanda Chan

I am a PhD Candidate in the Rehabilitation Sciences Institute at the University of Toronto (Temerty Faculty of Medicine) and Holland Bloorview Kids Rehabilitation Hospital under the supervision of Drs. Timothy Ross and Sally Lindsay. My doctoral research, funded by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC), focuses on how autistic students and their families experience schoolyards. I completed a Master of Arts in Child Study and Education alongside my Ontario College of Teachers designation from the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education at the University of Toronto. I also hold a MA in Critical Disability Studies from York University as well as a BA in Social Development Studies and Psychology with distinction from the University of Waterloo. My passions include teaching, collaborating with, and advocating for children with disabilities. My hope is to identify and unpack systemic issues rooted in ableism, challenge existing exclusionary norms, and, to meaningfully improve access and opportunity for disabled students.
