About Amanda Duchow

I am an experienced scientist with 8 years in an analytical role in an environmental lab, running and analyzing mercury data. I enjoy working in a team environment, but I also do well on my own. I am seeking a position that can challenge me and has opportunities for growth. I am a hard-working individual who works well under pressure and can effectively multi-task. During my time at Northern Michigan University, I participated in an internship with Cook Inlet Aquaculture Assocation. My tasks were to monitor a weir on Hidden Lake in Kenai National Wildlife Refuge in Alaska. As a Fisheries Technician, my daily routine was counting salmon that passed through the weir. I also took a sampling of salmon to measure their size and sex, as well as collecting a scale sample to determine health and age. I worked closely with Alaska Department of Fish and Game to tag salmon with PIT tags. Upon graduation, I sought out more work in Alaska and went to Prince William Sound Aquaculture Corporation to work at a hatchery. While there, I participated in the incubation of salmon and outmigration to net pens in the Sound. I fed the salmon and cleaned their net pens. I montiored pH and flow of incubators, checked mortality, and cleaned tanks. I assisted fishing vessels with sampling salmon to assess how many fish were being sold in harvest areas.
