About Amanda Ellington

Amanda Ellington received her Bachelor’s of Science in Elementary Education from Southeastern College, Lakeland Florida in 2001. Upon graduation, she taught Middle School Reading & Language Arts in Florida and Maryland. In 2006 she earned her National Board Certification in Adolescent Literacy and in 2009 earned her Master’s degree in Educational Leadership. Amanda has taught Educational Professional Development courses, including Cooperative Learning and Brain Based Instruction. In 2009 she became the Youth Services Supervisor at the Lexington Park Library. While attending Library Associate Training, Amanda studied Learning Centers in Libraries. Based on this research, Amanda has created cozy spaces and Learning Centers in Lexington Park Library and Portable Learning Centers for all three St. Mary’s County Libraries. Since 2009 Amanda has added 16 Active Learnig centers to the Lexington park Library as we all Learning Spot throughout the Library. Amanda has recently presented her ideas on Active Learning Centers in Libraries at the Maryland Library Assocation Conference in May 2011 and the American Library Association Conference in June 2011. Amanda is also a contributer to the Association of Library for Servies Children's Blog.
