About Amanda Jones

Designer / Maker at Cabinet of Curious Crafts - I run my own craft business, focusing on creating contemporary crochet accessories and gifts, which I sell on Etsy, at crafts fairs and in Midtown Makers craft and gift shop in Ballymena. I run workshops, teaching people to crochet, as well as selling my own patterns and crochet kits. My work is as eco-friendly as possible, printed products are produced using recycled paper/card, and I use natural vegan friendly yarns and materials. UX Design/Research - I recently completed a short foundation course in UX design and a more comprehensive online UX research course. There are many parallels between UX, my media degrees and previous work experience in community arts, where I carried out a lot of user research to plan for future projects and improve on ongoing ones. I have started working on a UX Research project using Typeform, Canva, and EnjoyHQ by Userzoom, designing therapy dolls for use in adult trauma recovery. I have created a mood board, conducted targeted conversations with the key stakeholder, developed personas and scenarios for the end users. After initial background research, I designed prototypes and conducted a preference survey using Typeform, and am currently analysing the results. I plan to use the results to make improvements to my designs, then conduct moderated usability tests, analysis those results and create a final product. During my media degree, I studied consumer behaviour which served me well in running my creative business; knowing what type of products to release and when. I have found some parallels between designing my crochet products and creating UX/UI designs.
