Speaker Biography: Some people find their passion early in life and have the chance to work in a field with the opportunity to thrive and make a difference. For Amanda Kemp, senior director of forensic and sexual assault services at YWCA Oklahoma City, taking the initiative to change the trajectory of her career by going to nursing school has allowed her to teach other health care professionals about sexual assault, domestic violence, and strangulation. Mrs. Kemp began her professional career at the Oklahoma Department of Human Services as a community capacity builder, specializing in resources for abused and neglected children. In 2009, she signed on with the YWCA in Oklahoma City as a sexual assault victim advocate and became the program’s director in 2012. In 2015, Mrs. Kemp received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Oklahoma and was honored with awards for academic achievement, leadership, and service. Amanda started her nursing career in the Cardiac ICU and began training to become a forensic nurse in 2016. Today, Mrs. Kemp oversees a 47-member team comprised of forensic nurses and sexual assault and crisis intervention advocates. She facilitates the Oklahoma County Sexual Assault Response Team, is a member of the governor-appointed SAFE (Sexual Assault Forensic Evidence) task force and serves on the Oklahoma Attorney General partnership conference planning committee. She was most recently recognized as Journal Records 50 making a difference for 2020. Amanda finds fulfillment by helping provide a voice and trauma-informed care to the unheard and forgotten victims of violence.
