About Amanda Lane

Amanda Lane is a museum professional and Master of Arts graduate from the University of Denver. She studied anthropology with an emphasis on museums and heritage studies. Amanda studied anthropology/sociology and Spanish with a minor in global and cultural studies at her undergraduate university, Whittier College. In her master's thesis, she explored the role of diverse staff and volunteers of Hawai'i Plantation museums and how their identities affect the representation of plantation history, including displays that acknowledge labor hardship, historical trauma, and erasure of Kanaka Maoli (Native Hawaiians). She aims to work with museums and communities to bolster efforts to preserve the underrepresented, Indigenous, and sensitive histories of diverse individuals. Amanda actively collaborates with people of various backgrounds through workshops, consultations, and public programs. She understands museums from a people-first perspective, applying Critical and Indigenous Museology practices to all aspects of her research, collections/project management, and public engagement work.
