Freight Broker is primarily responsible for developing relationships with existing and prospective carriers, analyzing needs, and aligning them with transportation services. Responsibilities performed focus on tracking and customer service; all while developing and strengthening strategic relationships. Job Duties · Negotiate transportation rates; closely follow market trends and seasonality of lanes and modes of transportation · Identifying and selecting reputable and safe carriers for freight services · Collaborating with shippers, carriers and dispatchers to manage scheduled collections and drop-offs · Updating customer service reps on status of shipments and assisting with other inquiries · Maintaining current knowledge of market trends in transportation marketplace · Work with Shippers, Carriers and Dispatchers to manage schedules · Resolve freight discrepancies in a timely manner · Booking orders with carriers · Monitor load boards and customer reach out for back hauls · Understand our brand, policies and procedures · Develop carrier relationships to secure freight using pre-qualified carrier database or posting to load boards · Ensure all activities are compliant with industry laws and regulations · Work rotational on call (as needed) · Other assigned duties as required Education and Experience · Established book of business preferred, but not required · Knowledgeable about back hauls and load boards to create return loads for out of town drivers · Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office applications · Team player with proven ability to work well under pressure handling multiple tasks concurrently · Strong attention to detail with excellent follow‐up · Professional aptitude, presentation and demeanor Key Competencies · Active Listening · Time Management Skills · Critical-thinking and Problem-solving · Service and Goal Oriented · Judgement and Decision Making · Skilled in Negotiations · Attention to Detail · Communication and Interpersonal Skills · Ability to prioritize and multitask
