Background

About Amanda Lee

Amanda Lee is Emeritus Professor in the School of Public Health at The University of Queensland. She has over 40 years experience as a “pracademic” in public health nutrition and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health in academia, government and non-government sectors. Her major research interests involve generating and synthesizing public health nutrition evidence and translating evidence into nutrition and healthy weight policy and practice. Amanda chaired the Australian National Health and Medical Research Council’s (NHMRC) Dietary Guidelines Working Committee that produced food-based dietary guidelines underpinned by strong scientific evidence. She is currently Chair of Food Standard's Australia and New Zealand's Consumer and Public Health Dialogue and a member of the Australian Academy of Sciences Nutrition Committee. She serves on many other national and international nutrition, obesity and chronic disease prevention advisory and working groups, including the food price and affordability domain of the International Network for Food and Obesity/Non-communicable Diseases Research, Monitoring and Action Support (INFORMAS), a global network that aims to monitor, evaluate and support public and private sector actions to improve food environments and reduce obesity and chronic disease. Amongst key activities Amanda has scoped the new national food and nutrition policy, helped finalize the national Healthy Weight Guide in Australia, worked with state/territory jurisdictions to prioritise policy actions to prevent obesity and address barriers to the uptake of dietary guidelines and developed the Healthy Diets ASAP (Australian Standardised Affordability and Pricing) method to assess the price and affordability of healthy and current diets. She is nutrition consultant for the NPY Women’s Council and Adjunct Professor at Several Universities.
