Background

About Amanda Lubit

AMANDA LUBIT I am a MSCA DOROTHY fellow researching how women refugees and asylum seekers across Ireland cope with crisis (e.g. healthcare, racism and housing). My work engages with issues of gender, race, women’s bodies, visibility, care, belonging, mobilities and public spaces. It builds upon my previous research on migrant Muslim women in Northern Ireland. My book on the subject is available open access as of April 2025 - I also engage with creative ethnography, connecting my migration research to my personal practice as a fiber artist (handspinner, dyer, weaver, etc). I am working with groups of women refugees and asylum seekers on textile projects relating to their experiences of crisis. My areas of expertise (from current and past experience) include: post-conflict contexts, social movements, gender, racism & xenophobia, place-making, integration & belonging, asylum seekers/refugees, displacement, migration, urban areas, identity politics, public spaces, policy, CBOs and NGOs. I have previous work experience specialising in international humanitarian emergencies, working with community-based organisations, international aid providers, and academic institutions to perform assessments, develop and implement programs, conduct evaluations and research studies. Previous project experience includes: • Syrian Refugees in Lebanon - evaluating integration and non-profit service delivery • Post-Conflict Reconstruction in Libya - developing programs for peace-building and mental health • Earthquake Recovery and Reconstruction in Nepal - researching longitudinal community resilience I enjoy this work because I am inspired by people’s abilities to display remarkable amounts of resilience, compassion, and bravery in moments of intense human vulnerability and suffering. I welcome conversations to discuss further. Contact me at amanda.lubit@dcu.ie or alubit01@qub.ac.uk.
