About Amanda McKellar

A word nerd with 16+ years of experience in writing and editing for many audiences, For most of my career, I have worked for small organizations that lacked upward mobility but offered a breadth of experience. My areas of specialty include print and online publications, search engine optimization, as well as brand and identity messaging. I also have a knack for translating technical and legal information for a general audience and providing easy to follow instructions to help even the most novice of users navigate software applications with confidence. I have written and edited application user guides as both a formal aspect of the role (database user guides, Momentum and Alberta Views; database and online portal end user procedures, RECA), and as an informal aspect of various duties (procedures guides for less tech-savvy colleagues accessing the backends of Drupal and WordPress websites, RECA and Momentum). My aptitude for translating business requirements—what the users really want the system to do—into functional and technical specifications and vice versa has been developed through experience working closely with website developers to build external-facing sites for that incorporate varied needs of my employers’ internal stakeholders with the needs of the average end user. Outside of the ABCs, I have honed skills in graphic design, project management, and have dabbled in HTML5 & CSS.
