About Amanda Pasanen

We need to solve both the climate crisis and the sixth extinction wave before it's too late. To achieve this we need forward looking green policies. Finland has to be a forerunner in climate policy and become the world's first carbon neutral welfare state. I'm a student at the University of Helsinki studying in the Master's Program of Environmental Change and Global Sustainability. My studies are interdisciplinary containing both natural sciences and social sciences. I see interdisciplinary as a necessity in solving complicated environmental issues, or so called "wicked problems" now and in the future. Due to my studies I have adopted a comprehensive approach to environmental and sustainability issues. I'm active in Helsinki city politics as a deputy member of the City Council's Green group and as a member of the City Environment Committee. I'm also in the board of the Helsinki Regional Transport Authority (HSL). I want Helsinki to be a forerunner in sustainable solutions and one of the leading cities in carbon neutrality. During my studies I have also been active in student politics. I have been in the board of the Student Union of the University of Helsinki and I'm currently a member of Representative Council. Earlier I have been active in the Development Cooperation Committee, which manages the development cooperation projects of the Student Union. In year 2016 I was the chair of the committee and the year before I worked as a project volunteer in our Indonesia project and participated in the monitoring trip to Indonesia. Apart from my life at the university I have worked as an Unlicensed Assistive Personnel helping out disabled people in their everyday life. I have also worked as a Finnish Teacher at the upper secondary school of Lärkan. Before starting my studies at the University I spent a half year in South India doing Environmental Education as a volunteer in the organization FSL-India. All these different fields of work has made me experienced in dealing with different kinds of people and working in multifaceted environments.
