About Amanda Ragula

Former CPA firm partner, current Director of Accounting at a large nonprofit where I am having a ton of fun making sure our accounting systems are forward thinking and built for optimal efficiency. I believe that accounting is a powerful tool to help people understand the story of their organization / business / performance, and I take pride in being able to translate numbers into meaningful information used in decision making. I am a CPA and former CFE, based in Maryland and have worked with clients throughout the US and occasionally Europe and Africa. I have focused primarily on auditing and accounting for nonprofit organizations and their affiliated entities, although I have also done "rescue CFO" work for organizations with budgets of $2.5M to $14M. This includes budgeting, projections, communications with funders, hiring and firing, and creating high performing accounting systems. I've spent the last 5 years at a firm where I was a founding member and had primary responsibility for HR, IT, insurance, and all the other things that happen behind the scenes. In that five year period we doubled staff and revenue - in the middle of a pandemic! I was also responsible for quality control and served as a peer reviewer for two years (an auditor who audits the work of other CPA firms to make sure it's in accordance with professional standards.) I have a thorough understanding of issues relating to nonprofit accounting and auditing, including Uniform Grant Guidance auditing, Form 990, charitable solicitation requirements, cost allocations, employee benefit plans, local governments, and accounting systems. I love communications - whether presenting at board meetings, teaching at seminars, writing marketing copy, or training/developing staff.
