About Amanda Richard

As an active child and youth advocate and as a Indigenous woman, I have faced a lot of adversity and have firsthand experience living in the child welfare system. I am incredibly passionate about being a voice and advocate for children and youth, especially those in the child welfare system as well as for Indigenous communities. Highly proficient in negotiation and collaboration. I have co-authored many reports and written and delivered speeches. My TedTalks speech currently has over 1300 views on YouTube. I have worked along side many politicians and leaders at various levels, from MLAs, to Provincial Ministers identifying efficiencies within the flawed child welfare system. At the International Youth In Care Summit, I participated in round-table discussions on child welfare issues worldwide. Done work provincially, federally, and internationally regarding the child welfare system. Through my studies at St. Thomas University, I have become more active and engaged with Indigenous issues through political science, criminology, social work, and public policy. I am interested in expanding my professional network in order to further my goals and ambitions for advocacy for Indigenous communities and the child welfare system.
