About Amanda Vazquez

I am an undergraduate student in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences at the University of Florida currently studying Behavioral/Cognitive Neuroscience and Nutritional Sciences with the intention of pursuing a career in Medicine. As a research intern in a neuroscience/biomedical engineering lab, I contribute to studies investigating vagal nerve stimulation (sVNS) as a potential intervention for obesity. My work involves analyzing how novel stimulation waveforms impact body weight, food intake, and metabolic regulation in obesity-prone models. I have also gained patient experience as an activities director assistant at the Trustwell Living nursing home and Haven Hospice center. My experience in programming as fellowship chair for Phi Delta Epsilon, spending my weekends volunteering at Remote Area Medical (RAM) clinics, diving into neurological research, and engaging in cross-cultural experiences through study abroad has strengthened my passion for medicine and patient-centered care. I am particularly interested in the intersection of neuroscience, nutrition, and aging, with a focus on improving health outcomes for geriatric populations. Through my diverse experiences in research, clinical settings, and leadership roles, I aim to develop a well-rounded perspective that will guide me in my future medical career.
