About Amanda Willig

I am a nutrition scientist and registered dietitian, driven to find out and communicate what works not just in the lab but out in the real world. I have coordinated research and outreach activities with over $25 Million+ in grant funding as Principal Investigator, Site PI, or Co-Investigator. Through these programs I analyze health outcomes in adults with HIV and aging adults, implement programs that address food insecurity and nutrition, and develop telehealth and m-health interventions to improve nutrition and diabetes outcomes for adults with disabilities. These opportunities have allowed me to engage in my passion of education and science communication – first and foremost with patients, study participants, and the healthcare providers who work with them, but also at conferences and institutions across the globe. I also maintain weekly clinical practice providing medical nutrition therapy at the UAB 1917 Clinic. As someone who grew up in a rural, blue collar town and was one of the first people in my family to graduate from college, my goal is to make basic nutrition access and practices accessible and feasible to everyone in a way honors their culture and personal health goals.
