About Amanda Wilson

As a first class graduate with a degree in Applied Biomedical Science, I have the knowledge and skills to fulfil the duties and responsibilities of a biomedical scientist in the NHS. University has afforded me an abundance of knowledge regarding clinical conditions and relevant diagnostic methodology. Furthermore, I have learned and developed skills like excellent manual dexterity, fluent communication and adept teamwork skills. I have also routinely followed health and safety and quality management guidelines in both educational and diagnostic laboratory settings. I have successfully completed the IBMS registration portfolio at the Scottish Microbiology Reference Laboratories at the Glasgow Royal Infirmary, which is accredited to ISO15189 standards and recently applied to become a permanent member of the HCPC. In my final honours year at university, I independently designed a first class investigation that analysed the virulence characteristics of Enteroaggregative Escherchia coli. This required the use of techniques like microbial culture, aseptic technique, antimicrobial sensitivity testing, molecular PCR and gel electrophoresis. In addition, I have matured several interpersonal skills like time management, organisation, communication, presentation, a strong work ethic, teamwork, adaptability and patience. I envisage my 5 year plan to begin in the NHS, as either an MLA/HCSW or as a BMS, ideally the latter. I feel passionately about working in a routine diagnostic microbiology lab, as I have curated an extensive knowledge regarding infectious diseases, that of which I would like to expand on through work and further education. Furthermore, I would love a role that provides the opportunity to complete a specialist portfolio.
