Product Physical Metallurgist with over 40 years of experience in steel chemistry design, processing and production for all forms of steel products through Thick and Thin slab casters. Expertise in production of Steels for Energy market such as linepipe, OCTG, and high toughness steels for Pressure Vessel, structurals, machinery and construction. Extensive experience in Automotive Advanced High Strength Steels, Bake hardenable steels and roll formable super high strength hot rolled steels. Developed lean HSLA alloys for Ultra high strength hot rolled as well as cold rolled galvanized steels through CSPs. Expertise in lean alloy product metallurgy through mini CSP mills and surface quality assurance through castability evaluations and consumable choice. Expertise on developing low CE plate products for advanced pressure vessels, line pipes both sour and non-sour applications, offshore structural TMCP products and high strength TMCP steels. Provided technical consultancy for production of clean steels and recipe for steels for Oil and Gas Sector for both sour and non-sour applications. Expertise in Casting Controls through thin slab casters for difficult to make AHSS steels and ladle Refining Practices for best external as well as internal quality steel production. Extensive experience in steel internal and external quality issues and resolution. Currently leading new product and process development for HR Skelp for energy, construction, machineries, pressure vessels as well as Automotive AHSS including Gen-3 steels through a state of the art Flex Mini Mill. Developed novel techniques in minimizing thin slab surface defects and internal quality assurance through automated imaging analysis. Involved in mentoring continuous improvement projects such as developing newer effective inclusion composition analysis for steel internal quality assurance. More than 60 technical papers in peer-reviewed journals. Recipient of ASM, AIST, AISI and National Young Metallurgist's awards for significant academic and technical contributions, notably Adolf Martens Lecture Award. Hunt-Kelly Outstanding Paper Award etc. Recently awarded Fastmarket's Best Innovation: Product Global Award for developing HSLA 100 hot rolled steel (2021) and Steelie Award from Worldsteel in 2023. Recipient of many other AIST, AISI Awards.
