About Amara MacFarlane

I recently completed my bachelor’s degree in Education (with a specialization in English and Equity, Diversity, Inclusion, and Decolonization) at the University of British Columbia. Throughout my career in education and childcare, I have worked with youth ranging from ages 2 to 20 in many different capacities, including as a daycare provider, an after school care provider, an outdoor guide, and a consent educator. I chose to become a teacher because I wanted to provide all of my students with the opportunities and tools needed to achieve their own goals. The best teachers I have had in my life empowered me to act on the things that I cared about, but also gave me the tools and support to make that action possible. As I become a teacher myself, I aspire to create the conditions for young people to pursue their own passions, trust their own instincts, and learn from one another. I am eager to work in an environment where students’ unique needs, interests, and aspirations are consistently foregrounded and honoured.
