About Amaris Ramey

As a former homeschooled child, my mother often encouraged me to explore the world outside the walls of our home. In turn, I was able to develop and cultivate my love for community at a young age. As an African-American Southerner, I have seen the disparities in the public school education system which lead to my passion for education. That passion gave me the groundwork to write stories that would eventually lead to my recognition by Scholastic, the Columbia College of Chicago, The Blood Orange Review, Agnes Scott College, The New York Times, HuffPost, Teen Vogue, Parents, and Refinery29. I have served as an after school instructor, a communications intern for a political campaign, an intern and organizer for a non partisan nonprofit, a voter engagement coordinator and now a Grassroots Organizing Manager. I have used my research skills that were developed through my undergraduate courses to engage with community members, present data, and provide meaningful connections to how politics, literature, and education are interwoven. I am a firm believer in collaboration, intersectionality, equity, and progress. The work that I have done in both my professional and academic career conveys my passion and drive for the communities that I serve.
