About Amber Henson

I am a dedicated student at the University of Michigan studying political science and international studies, with a sub-plan in international security, norms, and cooperation and a minor in crime and justice. As a Donia Human Rights Fellow, I’ve had the opportunity to study global human rights frameworks and explore how policy intersects with justice on an international scale. In 2023, I completed the Development Summer Internship Program (D-SIP) through the College of Literature, Science, and the Arts, where I continue to work today. Most recently, I led a consulting initiative for Harambee Youth Employment Accelerator in South Africa. As project lead, I helped design a plan to scale a youth employment program from 50 to participants over the next three years, addressing a national youth unemployment rate of over 60 percent. I served as vice president of the state executive board for Michigan College Democrats and currently hold the position of policy director. In these roles, I’ve worked to mobilize students, build coalitions, and organize around critical state and national issues. I'm now interning at the field office for Congresswoman Debbie Dingell in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Looking ahead, after my graduation this December, I plan to attend law school to deepen my understanding of justice and public policy and to pursue a career that allows me to advocate for human rights and democratic values on a global level.
