About Amber Murphy

I'm a chartered Three Waters Environmental Engineer at Beca, working on a range of stormwater, wastewater and water projects. Although my title is Environmental Engineer, really I like to think of myself as a civil engineer with some extra environmental focus and knowledge. I started in this field thanks to my engineering degree in Natural Resources from Canterbury University. I'm excited to have recently relocated to Adelaide, South Australia, from Christchurch where I have worked in Beca's Southern Water team since graduating. I particularly enjoy working on multidisciplinary projects, and seeing projects move from conceptual/big picture/feasibility studies, through to the nuts and bolts of detailed design, and construction. A lot of my focus has been on stormwater catchment analysis and development of design solutions. However I'm really enjoying recent Water Treatment Plant upgrade work. And in general I love problem solving any projects related to our community's infrastructure and environment. Working in Beca Christchurch's Water team has given me plenty of opportunities to work on exciting projects across New Zealand. Key highlights have been; multidiscipline projects at Christchurch Wastewater Treatment Plant, post-earthquake water supply and wastewater response work, my 2-year secondment to the Stronger Christchurch Infrastructure Rebuild Team (SCIRT) managing and working on conceptual and detailed design of rebuild projects, and my secondment to Waimakariri District Council's Flood Team implementing short and long-term works to alleviate flooding across the district.
