About Amber Stone

Amber Stone (she/they) is a dedicated public health and microbiology professional pursuing their Master of Public Health (MPH) at the Rutgers School of Public Health, specializing in LGBTQ Health, and currently working at the Center for Health, Identity, Behavior and Prevention Studies (CHIBPS), a nationally recognized center for studying LGBTQ health. Amber holds a Bachelor of Science in Microbiology, graduating with honors and a minor in Critical Sexualities Studies. Her research experience includes working as a research assistant at the New Jersey Institute for Food, Nutrition, and Health (IFNH), where she contributed to projects on the estrobolome - a collection of gut bacteria that metabolize and regulate estrogens in the human body. They presented these findings at conferences like the 2024 Rutgers Microbiology Symposium. Amber has been recognized for their leadership as President of oSTEM at Rutgers University, receiving national acclaim as the 2024 Chapter Leader of the Year, and for founding Rutgers LIFTS, an LGBTQ fitness club. She continues her involvement as an executive member of the Stonewall Alliance for Health, an organization for public health students supporting LGBTQ health. Amber’s commitment to fostering diversity and community as a STEM professional is reflected in their contributions to volunteering, leadership, and awards, like the Theodore Chase Award from the Rutgers Department of Microbiology and Biochemistry. Her goal is to advance health outcomes and equity for LGBTQ communities through public health and clinical laboratory science. Their hobbies include hiking, roller skating, watching horror and sci-fi movies, and caring for their cat.
