About Amber Westerhoff

For as long as I can remember I have had a passion for languages and an interest in communication. Because of that I have focussed my Bachelor Communication and Information Sciences (also called Business Communication) on the Spanish language and culture. As a logical follow-up I chose to do the Masters International Business Communication, for which I have done research about the effects of concrete (vs. abstract) language use and language choice (first vs. second) on the extent to which people remember advertisements. From my research I can conclude that people remember advertisements better in their first language, and that this effect is strengthened by the use of concrete language. To broaden my education I took additional courses at the Bachelor's and Master's programmes of Psychology, Business Administration and Communication Sciences. Even though these courses resembled the subjects covered in my own Bachelor and Master, the change in perspective was very informative. Because of this I have learned that there are multiple ways of tackling one problem. Especially in a branche where you work with people this is very important knowledge to have. Besides my education I have been an active member of my student sports association (fencing). After a challenging board year I have supported the Advisory Commission for my successors, the Activity Commission and did I repairs of club materials with the Weapon's Commission. Of course I also regularly train and visit competitions in the Netherlands as well as abroad.
