About Amitabh Kumar

Mr Kumar is BE(Hons) in Electronics from BITS Pilani and holds PG diploma in Telecommunications Management from TEMIC Canada and Dip. Electronic Data Interchange from Deakin University, Australia. Prior to this assignment at Zee, Mr. Kumar was Director of Operations of VSNL (1995-2001) and also its Acting Chairman and managing Director in 1998-99 where he had a key role in setting up India’s first Internet services nationwide. He has also been on the Board of Governors of Intelsat, and Council member of Commonwealth Telecommunications Organization(CTO) and on Board of Directors of Erstwhile ICO Global Communications. Currently Board Director in Zee Media Corporation Ltd. and Siticable Networks Ltd.( Non-Executive). Highly experienced in Media, Internet and Telecom Fields is well known in the Industry for skills and expertise in diverse areas. He has been associated with the Essel Group and was responsible for setting up the Dish TV, the First DTH operation in India and also managing the entire Broadcast Network of Zee with about 150 channels distributed in India and Globally. Has authored various books such as Mobile TV: DVB-H, DMB, 3G systems and Rich Media Applications Implementing Mobile TV, Mobile Broadcasting with WiMAX etc. Currently very active in Media, Broadcasting and Telecom Fields.
