About Amory Abbott

I'm a visual artist, illustrator, writer, publisher, and academic consultant living in Vancouver, BC, Canada. I've had a number of solo and group exhibitions in the years following my MFA in Visual Studies from PNCA in Portland, OR. Since moving to Canada to teach at Emily Carr University, my interests have grown beyond the studio, and I've been having success in the field of illustration, having two separate tarot/oracle decks published in the U.S, and a number of comics featured in local anthologies. In 2019, I co-founded Fire Season, an art book publication that gathers artists, photographers, poets, and writers from around the world on the topic of wildfires. In 2023, I founded Cauldron Books & Comics, a graphic novel and comics publishing company who's mission is to celebrate and elevate upcoming comic makers in Vancouver and beyond. I've been teaching at the university level full-time since 2017, and in 2020 won the Ian Wallace award for Excellence in Teaching. I was awarded tenure in 2021, along with a rank change to Associate Professor. At that time I also took on the position of Assistant Dean, Illustration in my department. Along with developing my own curriculum at Emily Carr, I also have been an academic consultant for other illustration curriculum in Canadian colleges and universities.
