About Amy Atherton

It began with an adventure game on an Apple IIe. I was 8 and tracking treasure in the Amazon jungle. My Dad taught me DOS commands so I could pull up my favorite game. My love of technology started with Apple computers in 1978 and I haven't looked back. My career in education began at All Saints' Episcopal School in Fort Worth in 1998, 2 decades from that Amazon adventure game, the lab was Apple computers, with dial-up ports and disk drives. When a program was deleted, I discovered how to created my own network with Telex boxes and phone cable to copy the programs from one station to the next, so the students could have the same programs on every computer as I did not have the software from the former instructor. I went back to school to become a certified teacher in Technology Applications. It was a new discipline for the state and there was no curriculum, so wrote my own. I taught “The History of the PC”, “The History of the Internet”, HTML, CSS, Basic Web Pages, Dreamweaver, Flash, Fireworks, and Adobe Photoshop. I created the school website and was a district technology trainer for the district. I transitioned to working with school districts in Educational Technology departments. Over the years I have worked with several Learning Management Systems. I have developed training material for e-Learning, and in-person training for the districts I served utilizing the principles of Andragogy in adult learning. I have designed training projects, assessment projects, and much more. In 2016 I received my M.Ed. with School Counseling certification from TCU. I enjoy collaborating with other departments on projects and working out puzzles. It is my goal when working with adult learners that their interaction with technology is always a positive one.
