About Amy Block

Currently, I am a Behavioral Health Project Associate at the Kenneth Young Center. This has been such an exciting growth opportunity for me. This position consists of grant writing, meeting & maintaining grant requirements, tracking program data, maintaining compliance with SAMHSA surveys, etc. Everyone at KYC has been amiable and compassionate. Recently, I was a Certified Peer Recovery Coach for Oaklawn Psychiatric Center. I enjoyed this career because Oaklawn consisted of many caring people that made it a pleasure to work there. Oaklawn paved the way for me to become a Certified Recovery Specialist. First, I signed up for the seven day training that enabled me to start my career as a Recovery Coach and became certified as a CAPRC I. Once I became certified, I started to work with the unhoused population in a Housing First environment where I engaged with the homeless population. I assisted the clients through the process of obtaining permanent supportive housing that provides wrap around services. I also became Coordinator of the housing first model emergency shelter. I enjoyed receiving an opportunity of witnessing many people go from homeless to housed. As a Conductor I met expectations of maintaining conductor certification, complying with federal rules and regulations for transportation, and training and supervision of various new employees to be safe and knowledgeable conductors. I worked for the South Shore Rail Road, so therefore I transported people from South Bend, Indiana to Chicago, Illinois and all stops in between. During my five years of employment, I learned a lot from the Northern Indiana Commuter Transportation District on how to safely move trains from one location to the other. I also met a lot of great people along the way.
