Background

About Amy Cunningham

I serve as the public information liaison for the Denton Police Department. As a PIO for the department, I regularly communicate with media partners and coordinate special projects. Before moving to the Police Department, I was a marketing and outreach coordinator for the City of Denton. In this role, I grew the City's social media presence and assisted with various internal and external communications projects. Previously, I served as the social media director for KAMC-TV and KLBK-TV in Lubbock, Texas. My role at the CBS and ABC affiliates allowed me to not only inform the public about breaking news, but also creatively build the two stations' unique audiences. I hold two degrees from Texas Tech University. In August 2018, I graduated with a master's degree in mass communications. The previous year, I earned my Bachelor of Arts in public relations. While at Texas Tech, I was the editor-in-chief of The Daily Toreador student news publication. I also secured internships with Visit Lubbock, Lubbock Economic Development Alliance, Mary Kay Inc. and Big Brothers Big Sisters. I value my creativity, work ethic and love for AP style, as well as my ability to think strategically and effectively. I have experience on both sides of the media, which has taught me how to work well under deadlines, lead diverse staffs and much more. I approach every situation as a potential learning experience.
