About Amy Dux

In the current political and social climate of our county, I believe honoring diversity and practicing inclusion ways to take a stand in the larger context of social justice. It is essential for educators to be on the “right” side of this stand. As schools become more diverse, educators must be aware that the status quo operates to give advantages to some learners and marginalize others. As educators, we must be willing to place a strong emphasis on multiculturalism and culturally relevant and responsive pedagogy in order to level the playing field, so that all students can experience equitable educational opportunities. Culturally relevant and responsive pedagogy means that educators work to create a culture where all aspects of a child’s unique culture are not only engaged, but validated and valued. Educators must be intentional about understanding the uniqueness of others, and work to build authentic relationships to foster inclusion. This allows for learning opportunities in which all students can take a path that leads to personal empowerment and academic success. I feel taking this stand is the heart of our Constitution and John Locke’s unalienable rights – that all humans are created equal.
