Background
About Amy Goh
Amy Goh has done a number of vastly different things traversing the arts, pedagogy and digital humanities. She possesses a multitude of existences, as she is constantly tuned into many frequencies of reality. On the outermost shell, she is a rogue teacher and researcher at Mcgill by day, and a freelance illustrator and writer by night. These seemingly divided worlds of hers, however, often collide. As a teacher, Amy works at GoFluent where she delivers personalized lessons to business clients all over the world using Skype and various digital tools; she has also done a short stint teaching in Japan. As an illustrator, she has worked as a concept artist for video games, cover artist on a number of projects, curated her own shows, and done contract work for clients spanning the globe. In addition, Amy also does research at her local university developing digital tools for the classrooms. One of her current projects includes working with a couple of professors in the environmental humanities field in order to develop new ways of storytelling through digital environments. Amy has a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature and a Minor in East Asian Studies and German Studies. She is originally from Singapore, and she speaks fluent Mandarin Chinese, some Japanese, and she can read some French. Artist's statement: Amy Goh is a Singapore-risen artist specializing in black and white illustrations in the surrealistic and sublime vein. Her ink-layered illustrations stitch together an encyclopaedic visual repository wherein she scrutinizes and navigates memories, dreams, and the nebulous crevices of the mind. She is obsessed with the space between the sacred and profane, German expressionist cinema and thought, and fueled by an insatiable appetite for books. Amy is currently based in Montreal, Canada where she is actively exploring the potential for cross-medial artistic collaboration.
