About Amy Gonzalez

Dedicated to protecting and promoting community health in South Texas, I am a public health professional with over seven years of experience in infectious disease surveillance, outbreak response, and public health preparedness. I currently oversee the Epidemiology and Surveillance team at Hidalgo County Health and Human Services, where I lead efforts in disease tracking, cross-border collaboration, and health education. I’ve contributed to the local and regional response for COVID-19, Zika, Mpox, and Influenza, and helped expand our department’s capabilities in disaster epidemiology and chronic disease surveillance. My work emphasizes health equity, timely data sharing, and building strong partnerships with schools, hospitals, emergency management, and binational stakeholders. I am passionate about workforce development and actively mentor public health students and interns to build the next generation of public health professionals. I’ve presented at local, state, and international conferences on topics such as avian influenza awareness, wastewater surveillance, pandemic preparedness, and binational coordination.
