About Amy Kretkowski
The veterans benefits system is supposed to be "non-adversarial and claimant-friendly," but in reality, it's not. It's crucial for veterans to have an effective and experienced advocate on their side. After clerking on the U.S. Court of Appeals for Veterans Claims in Washington D.C. for over two years, I returned to Iowa to represent veterans in their VA appeals. The growing need for effective legal representation in this area of law inspired me to train the next generation of veterans' advocates. I am currently teaching an upper-level course in Veterans Benefits Law at the University of Iowa College of Law. I'm also training Veterans Service Officers around the country, as well as mentoring attorneys as they represent veterans at the Court of Appeals for Veterans Claims through the Veterans Consortium Pro Bono Program.
