So what do I do at Teknika Design Group, a kitchen and bath design firm and product showroom, since I had no experience in the industry prior to buying Teknika in 2008? Well first I hired a designer with 25 years of experience. Hint # 1 (as an industry outsider now insider): Do not hire a kitchen designer unless they have been designing kitchens and baths full time for over 5 years. After that big issue was taken care of I began to look at the business end. This is an industry run by creative people who often have forgotten or do not even think about the business end. This is my role. Hint #2: No matter what your neighbor/friend thinks of “their contractor”, if their prices are lower by more than 10% than other quotes you have gotten, they are probably too good to be true. The risk you are taking is at least 10 times the money you are saving. Teknika Design Group’s priority is to take the mystery out of design and the questionable quality out of products and installation in the kitchen and bath industry. By hiring Teknika Design Group, you are insuring 1. that our designs will always be unique to you; 2. the products you choose from are the best in the industry and we can explain why; 3. the installation will go smoothly (as possible), since this is custom and there are always issues. your renovation will be accomplished on time and on budget. In this industry, it is surprising how often consumers do not have this experience or even start with these expectations. Hint #3: Do not hire any kitchen and bath designer, firm or architect if they do not admit that there are issues on every project, because there always are. Ask for referrals from clients who had issues so you can ask how they were resolved. Teknika’s mission is to change your view of renovations. It should be exciting and even fun.
